Red Creek Day 74 - Sand Bars

My brother and sister-in-law visited the shed that we are renovating into a studio space on Saturday.  Kevin visits on a regular basis to see the progress, but this was Rosemary's first visit. I have many of my daily paintings on display, and she commented on how the small paintings read better from a slight distance. I love to hear people's comments because it helps me reflect on my painting. The paintings are becoming more and more impressionistic. A lot of this comes from painting late at night, using oil paint that dries very slowly and painting very quickly - completing most of the paintings in a hour or two. This leads to direct color mixing, small dabs of color, quick, short brushstrokes, a wet in wet technique,  and less detail. Is this good or bad? I believe that depends on the eyes of the beholder and personal preferences. Personally I just think its different, and that's okay. I'm painting every day, and that's good.
