This yellow-gold flower with a dark center is my favorite flower. Its Neo-Latin genus name is H
elianthus which means "sunflower". The bright petals surround the darkness. It's a bright spot amongst the weeds. It is found in ditches, roadsides and along the creek. It's a perennial that shows up every fall. You can cut it down and it grows right back. It's simple; it's tough; and I love it.

You go, girl! Keep on shining in the darkness!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about your primrose. I think it needs a little darkness. A darker background (value contrast) will help your flower shine.
DeleteI hear you loud and clear about the need for more contrast; in the four-block rendition, the black provided a good foil for the light flowers, but the brown in the single version isn't as strong as the black. A good learning experience, yes?
ReplyDeleteI really like what you are doing with the framed fruit. They are fun and complex like you. It feels a little Magritte surreal like. I know the fruit is packed with meaning, as well as your cloth choices. The shirts remind me of you and the places that we've been. I feel like these pieces are bringing everything together . They tell a story like your writing. They explore some of the same subject matter as in your photography, and you are quilting. Bravo!
