Red Creek Day 20 - Dogwood Trinity

My Drawing II students and I have been working with printmaking - engravings and block prints. I was looking at the block prints admiring the simple shapes and bold lines when I started thinking about the flowers that I have been painting. So, I took last night's painting of dogwood and translated it into a drawing for the block print below. I was also thinking how placement of shapes could further the Christian symbolism. In many religious images, people and objects are arranged in a triangular format symbolizing the trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Therefore, tonight I present the Dogwood Trinity.
