The flowering dogwood (Cornus florida L.) is a small tree that blooms between March and April. The inner bark was once used as a remedy for fevers and malaria. According to Christian tradition, the dogwood blossoms bear the scars of Jesus' crucifixion. The petals are tipped with blood-fringed nail indentations. The flower is cross-shaped, and the center represents the crown of thorns - Very Interesting.
